YAMAHA VX WAVERUNNER IS THE BEST-SELLING MODEL FOR THE 5TH YEAR IN A ROW

Yamaha WaterCraft Group, a division of Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, today announced that the Yamaha VX WaveRunner was the #1 selling personal watercraft in 2009, according to state registration data for the period of Oct. 1, 2008 through Sept. 30, 2009.

During a year when Yamaha found itself competing against heavy discounting by other manufacturers, Yamaha was the only company to gain significant market share and the only company to dominate the list of top 10 best selling personal watercraft.

In addition to the Yamaha VX WaveRunner claiming the top spot for fifth year in a row, the Yamaha FX Cruiser SHO® finished 2009 as the best-selling Luxury Performance model. The FX Cruiser SHO was also the best selling Luxury Performance model in 2008.

JAY LENO'S CUSTOMIZED VMAX GETS $120,000 AT BARRETT-JACKSON

Jay Leno auctioned off his customized Star VMAX motorcycle to benefit a Brooklyn community arts program run by one of his oldest friends. His lighthearted approach to auctioneering earned the charity some serious money!

Saturday evening, as live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction from Las Vegas reached its climax, Jay Leno put his star power to good use. In a town that worships celebrity and is perhaps the world's capital of stand-up comedy, Leno's definitely at the top of the 'A-list.' Add that to his celebrity amongst car collectors – and the fact that the sale was to benefit Bailey's Café, a worthy charity – and the stage was set for an epic auction.

Bailey's Café is a community arts program that operates in a tough Brooklyn neighborhood. It was founded by Stefanie Siegel, who was a close friend of Leno's during their college days. The two had not seen each other for 18 years, until they met in the VIP 'green room' behind the stage at the Mandalay Bay convention center.

Backstage, as the two old friends caught up and anticipated the sale, Leno kept an eye on the television monitor. “I thought that Shelby Cobra would go for more,” he said, adding, “It's a tough economy.”

Still, once Leno himself rode the VMAX onto the Barrett-Jackson stage, bidding on the bike – which featured an old-school hot rod-style paint job by Benny Flores – quickly reached $60,000.

Although it seemed the bidding might stall there, Leno had the crowd enthralled. He sweetened the pot with a Garmin GPS system, then his Alpinestars jacket and Arai helmet, and a personal tour of his garage. As the bids reached $70,000-$80,000, Yamaha's Bob Starr announced that Yamaha's musical instrument division had donated 6 guitars and a drum set to the arts program. That prompted Leno to virtually demand bidders pony up another $5,000.

YAMAHA 2010 VX SERIES RAISES BAR FOR FUEL EFFICIENT PERSONAL WATERCRAFT

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA announced today that its new 2010 Yamaha VX Series WaveRunners® will save consumers up to an additional 10 percent in fuel cost compared to previous VX models. Yamaha’s VX WaveRunners were already the most fuel efficient watercraft on the water and have been the best-selling personal watercraft in the boating industry since 2005.

A remapping of the watercraft’s sophisticated ECU allowed Yamaha engineers to reduce fuel consumption by 10 percent at both cruising speed and wide open throttle while maintaining the class-leading performance that makes the VX Series so fun to ride.

“The VX series has been the top seller in the industry because in addition to its features, comfort and performance, it delivers the best overall value in the industry,” said Scott Watkins, product manager of Yamaha’s WaterCraft Group. “Buyers in this segment want the lowest total cost of ownership while still having a fun and exciting time on the water. By remapping the engine, we’ve been able to reduce fuel consumption by 10 percent while also helping it burn cleaner with no reduction in horsepower.”

In addition to this update, the Yamaha VX Series features Yamaha’s exclusive Low RPM Mode™ that can reduce fuel consumption by up to 26 percent based on average annual use.

For 2010, the Yamaha VX line includes the Yamaha VX Cruiser®, the series flagship that features Cruiser® comfort; the VX Deluxe, the best-selling all-around model in the personal watercraft industry; and the VX Sport, the most affordable WaveRunner in the Yamaha line. BREAKING NEWS!!!

On Tuesday, August 4th, CBS Evening News aired a biased, unjustified and irresponsible report entitled "Yamaha's Deadly Rhino." As a motorsports and off-roading enthusiast, as well as a Rhino owner, I take personal offense to such a story. The story focuses on profiling the Yamaha Rhino as an unstable, unsafe and unreliable off-road vehicle which has been linked to an exorbitant number of deaths and injuries since it debuted in 2003.
The fact is, from my personal experience, that the Rhino is a spectacular machine that exudes off-road capability, versatility and safety. The majority of the claims against the Rhino, in my opinion, are from people who cannot accept responsibility for their own actions. Many of the injuries and deaths blamed on the Yamaha Rhino, according to police and CPSC reports, can be linked to accidents involving heavily modified Rhinos, unrestrained passengers, reckless manuevers, inexperienced operators, and drug and/or alcohol consumption. Read the 1,370 page CPSC report HERE.
